This spot is for The Royal Bank of Canada, directed by Tom and Mark Perret, Produced by Nexus productions.

To get the stop motion feel many techniques were employed; over bulky modelling which helps give a small sense of scale, animating on 2's for the jerky motion, and subtle shallow focus and grading to look like dated stop mo film.

It was my job to model and rig all 90 or so characters, which was a huge challenge, requiring some hefty planning and pipeline improvements.

Coca Cola Beijing Olympics spot Directed by Smith & Folkes, Produced by Nexus Productions. Agency:W+K Portland

I oversaw character development, designing and modeling the Lebron James and Yao Ming hero characters.

I also modeled and rigged the chinese dragon, the panda and Grizzly heads, did their fur setup and rendering, and modeled and textured Santa Claus. (who you may just spot if you pay vvverryy close attention..)

This is the second advert for Sky Italy, directed by Jim Le Fevre at Nexus Productions.

For this ad I focused entirely on the Christmas tree character. I had to develop a something that would not only look convincing, but be able to move and react well, with automated secondary motion on the branches, baubels and tinsel. I ended up modelling, rigging, texturing, lighting and rendering him.

I also modelled and rigged the photo-real Dustin Hoffman character.... ahem.

First of 3 30 second adverts for Sky Italia, produced by Nexus Productions and directed by Jim Le Fevre.

I did the character modelling for the little gnomes, the cloud man, the goggled-eyed guys packing the dream boxes, the lamp headed man, the humming birds and the "OK" stamp man at the end. I also rendered the closing shot.

Can't take much credit for this one, I did remodelling on the main character a some render wrangling.

Plagiarism? - gallery update

Some of you will have no doubt seen the Bears3 characters created by Matt Everitt and myself. If not check them out here http://www.veoh.com/channels/Bears3

Bears3 are characters we created which were animated to dialogue taken from Ricky Gervais's Xfm radio show. They are featured on Ricky's website and on the Xfm site.

The Bears have been very popular over the past couple of years, featuring in Pictoplasma's Characters in Motion book and on the accompanying DVD. They also toured the world as part of the Onedotzero Film Festival, and more recently appeared on BBC1 (see below)

It recently came to our attention that there are television advertisements for the Irish Lotto featuring some familiar characters.... but don't take our word for it, let us know what you think:

The agency involved in the ads are DDFH&B, and the production company are Brown Bag Films.

Discussion on the Creative Ireland forums started by suggesting that perhaps we may have ripped off the Lotto ads. Things are soon cleared up when people defend us by stating the Bears were around long before the lotto ads. People involved in the pitching of the ads have said that Bears3 were being shown during the development and used as reference.

Unfortunately Brown Bag Film's solicitors weren't happy about this, and demanded no further discussion of this sort:

"For legal reasons I would ask that Creative Ireland members post no more topics in relation to this issue, or Brown Bag Films.

Solicitors acting on behalf of Brown Bag Films are currently in contact with Creative Ireland.

Creative Ireland takes any issue of defamation very seriously and our moderators and myself act as swiftly as possible to deal with any such issues that may arise once contacted."

Naturally the folk at Creative Ireland aren't too happy about being silenced like this. This has lead to a few spin off threads where no names are mentioned, but it's clear what is being discussed. It also moved people to email us with some helpful information.

TER - gallery update

Two ads done in 2005 for TER/SNCF.
These were done at Nexus Productions and directed by Smith and Foulkes.

In the leopard one I modelled the all the leopards and the antelope.

In the fairy tale one I modelled the Princess, both the palace interiors, the rival princes and their cars.
I was also responsible for the cloth simulation on the princesses gown.

This first image was created back in 2002 I think. I was made for a competition at cgtalk.com.
Can't say it's stood the test of time too well though, so I started having a stab at updating it and giving it the zbrush treatment.
